What is ITR Filing

ITR (Income Tax Return) is a report you submit to the Income Tax Department to declare:

      • Your income
      • Taxes paid
      • Deductions claimed
      • Any refund due

Filing your ITR is important and legally mandatory if your income crosses a certain limit — and it also helps with loans, visas, and government benefits.

Who Should File Income Tax Returns (ITR) in India?

Filing ITR isn’t just for salaried individuals—it applies to a wide range of people and entities. Here’s a complete breakdown.

You must file an ITR if any of the following apply to you:

      • ₹2.5 lakh (if you’re under 60)
      • ₹3 lakh (if you’re 60–79 years old)
      • ₹5 lakh (if you’re 80 or older)

  • Must file ITR if:
      • Their income exceeds the basic exemption limit, or
      • They are registered under Section 12A or 80G.
  • ITR is mandatory if:
      • You earned income in India (rent, capital gains, dividends, etc.)
      • Your Indian income exceeds ₹2.5 lakh.
